There's usually a surprise or two at the film festival. Sometimes it's a last minute midnight movie screening. I'm sort of glad that didn't go down this year, I remember staying up very late drinking beer at 1 am trying to pay attention to a political documentary and I don't remember a think about it anyway.
This afternoon I found out about a "surprise screening."
A new animated version of Peter and the Wolf which just this week won a prestigious award in Europe (and there's talk of it being nominated for an Oscar here) is going to screen on Saturday, a few times. Well, at least, a large portion of it. They can't screen the entire film due to distribution rights.
But one of the animation studio's artists is Pawel Partyka, who has been at the festival since last weekend, so he made it happen.
Oh, the award it just won was the Gran Prix AND Audience award for short animated films at the Annecy Int'l. film festival. I've never heard of it, but, it's "the one that follows Cannes."
Bye, sweeties!
